Saints expected to keep Dennis Allen for 2024 NFL season

There figures to be plenty of coaches fired on Monday, but heading into Sunday’s regular-season finale, New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen isn’t expected to be one of them, according to Pro Football Talk.

Allen has one more game to coach Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, with the Saints heading into the game 8-8 and with a chance to still make the postseason.

Regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s game, the Saints could come back with both Allen in charge and quarterback Derek Carr under center.

New Orleans began Sunday outside the playoff picture, despite having the same record as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who look poised to win the NFC South due to a tiebreaker over the Saints.

But a New Orleans win over the Falcons, coupled with a loss by the Buccaneers to the Carolina Panthers, would guarantee the Saints a spot in the NFL playoffs.

Allen, 51, is in his second year as the head coach in New Orleans.

The Saints went 7-10 in his first season.

He was also head coach of the then-Oakland Raiders for just over two seasons from 2012-14.

Carr, who turns 33 in March, is in his first year with the Saints after an unceremonious end to his nine-year Raiders tenure last year.
