Michael Thomas blasts Saints, Derek Carr over season-ending ‘bad ball’

New Orleans Saints wideout Michael Thomas said he wasn’t playing the “blame game” in a series of posts on social media which called out his team and quarterback Derek Carr.

Taking to his X account, the All-Pro wideout seemed to hint at a divorce with the Saints — and claimed a “bad ball” from Carr led to his season-ending knee injury in New Orleans’ 27-19 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 12.

It all started when Thomas responded to a fan on X, who wrote: “Mike if you can stay healthy, you’ll have the stats you had when Drew [Brees] was around.”

The three-time Pro Bowler replied: “Well if I didn’t get set up by a bad ball I probably would’ve had a light little 1k yards this year but could of should of [sic] I know I get it lol.

“On top of that they wasn’t even trying to get me the ball but it’s no denying my style of play it don’t age playa you will see.”

The fan added that a “change of scenery probably” would be best for Thomas, who is set to enter the last year of his contract with New Orleans — where he has spent his entire eight-year NFL career.

Thomas also replied to a separate thread on X, which explained there were plenty of times during the season when he was open and didnt get the ball.

“Unfortunately Derek Carr rarely pulled the trigger especially after MT called him out on the AT Perry play,” one X user wrote, to which Thomas replied: “Exactly, they was mad I defended my buddy [Saints wideout] Chris [Olave] when everyone was scared. But remember we don’t play the blame game, y’all goofy.”

Thomas was referring to when he publicly defended Olave after Carr became visibly frustrated following a failed third down conversion where the quarterback threw the ball away over Olave during a loss to the Jaguars in October.

Thomas also weighed in on another thread, which discussed the 30-year-old keeping his composure and being a team player, despite his lack of targets.

In response to one fan that said, “Will miss you in NOLA,” Thomas wrote: “real spill.”

Thomas suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 10 when he was tackled by Minnesota cornerback Akayleb Evans after a high throw from Carr in the first quarter.

He had 38 catches for 439 yards and a touchdown across the Saints’ first nine games.

Carr suffered a right shoulder injury and a concussion in the loss to Minnesota.

Thomas’ future with the Saints seems uncertain, but offloading him won’t be an easy task.

He has a $1.2 million base, $8.99 million prorated bonus and $2.2 million roster bonus in 2024.

He has a dead cap of $18.2 million next season.

Thomas was a second-round pick, 47th overall, by the Saints in the 2016 draft.

The wideout led the NFL interceptions in 2018 and 2019, the same year he was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year and also led the league in receiving yards.
